Episode 39 - "SNOOTLE - Interview Author Tia Petty"

Turn on this podcast and go to www.snootle.com to check out Snootle, a comic strip by Tia Petty.  Snootle is a dog going through a "puppy life crisis"! Snootle and Repty the garden snake have adventures while looking out for their human boy Patrick.  Tia just had her first Snootle book published, and you can find it on www.amazon.com or www.barnesandnoble.com.  The book is huge and colorful and makes a great gift.  It's the kind of book that you should leave out on the coffee table so friends can page through it and say "gee this friend of mine has a great sense of humor, and is sooooo good looking."

Tia tells us about how she managed to produce this special tome using only an iPad!  She gives away all the secrets so you can create your own comic strip and make it into a book and compete with her on the store book shelf.  I share my childhood comic strip character I created with her and Chuck, his name is Gimic.

Also, there's a quiz at the end and Tia does well.  Many more winning sounds than buzzer sounds.

We hope you enjoy this episode!  Thanks for listening.  And really, check out Tia's book, Snootle, you may even want to buy the t-shirt and coffee cup with Snootle's face on it as well.

Snootle's also on Facebook.

Episode 38: "Bladerunner 2049 - Movie Review"

Ridley Scott had a vision of bleak future, but there are flying cars and robots called replicants, so it can't be all bad, right?  Well the newest installment is about replicants replicating the old fashioned way.  And the mysteries of who's human and who's more human than human carry on.

If you love Bladerunner, and want to chat with a couple of geeks about Bladerunner 2049, you've come to the right place. We do all the talking, but feel free to join in.  Or tweet us your thoughts.  We're also on Facebook, Tumblr, and Instagram.

Episode 36 - "Ishtar: 30 Years Hot Fudge Love"

THE EPISODE YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!   WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!  The episode that may make you change your name to Carol. (Ishtar reference)

We've been teasing you on IG and Twitter with #bringbackishtar for months now. (Go ahead, google that hashtag.)  Not only are Chuck and I talking about this too hip for the room comedy; we got to interview a big shot filmmaker!  "Waiting For Ishtar" is a new documentary (available December 15, 2017 on VIMEO On Demand). It was created by filmmakers John Mitchell and Jonathan Crombie. Chuck and I were lucky to interview John Mitchell about our mutual love of the misunderstood film "Ishtar".  John's documentary is about a quest; a quest to find a sole video cassette copy of Ishtar, and to uncover why there was a waiting list of 47 people to see it.  While making the movie, John and Jonathan got a lot more than they dreamed.  They were the "Rogers and Clark" (Ishtar reference) of documentaries.  They were the dreamers that didn't give up until they achieved their goal.  Their simple documentary became an adventure.  Oh, and they got to interview, Charles Grodin, Carol Kane, and Paul Williams.

Enough about John and Jonathon... Chuck and I got to talk ISHTAR!  With a kindred soul, another wise human being that "gets" the humor, loves the songs, and has always wondered why Ishtar got so maligned?

Ishtar is 30 years old, and it's overdue for a sequel. Step aside Star Wars! We hope you enjoy this interview with John Mitchell.  It was a pleasure having him on the show.

Instructions: 1) Listen to this podcast.  2) Order "Waiting for Ishtar" using Vimeo On Demand. 3) Buy the blu-ray of Ishtar.  4) Learn all the songs.

AND PLEASE -- review our show on iTunes!  It means so much to us.

Thanks John for coming on our show!  It was great laughing about Ishtar again.

Episode 35 - "Thor: Meh-ranok?"

Someone on the show has a special rating system.  Likes/Dislikes/and Meh.  Is Thor: Ragnarok "meh" or not "meh"?  That is the question.

Highlight of the show - probably not us, it's probably Ashley from Kentucky with her very funny and yet swift and succinct review of "Thor: Ragnarok".    Thanks for being part of our show, Ashley!

We talk about Chuck's backyard fun at home, Celeste makes an appearance, we mention my favorite new podcast "Whiting Wongs", and then review the Uru out of Thor and his hammer, Mjolnir.

Episode 34 - "Dissecting Star Trek Discovery"

Is Sarek secretly a member of the Article 31 operatives?

Chuck and poke the first few episodes of Discovery with a pain-stick, and we prognosticate on where this show is going. When this series concludes if it turns out we were right, we'll be sure to remind you.

A weird mind-meld may mean Sarek had reason for placing his ward on the Shenzou.  Did he have foreknowledge that ship would bump into the Klingons?  Did Michael?  Get your remote control out and be ready to hit "pause".  There's hints in every eyeball close-up, and marbles in T'Kuvma's mouth.  You can get it al with CBS All Access... ooooh yeah!!

Let us know if you agree with any of our theories.  Send me a tweet! Thanks for listening to Geek Life Crisis!  Please reach out to us on the Facebook, the twitter, the tumblr, or the Instagram.  Write a review on iTunes! Visit our now "fully functional" website. (See what I did there?)  I will blog some "after editing" Discovery thoughts on our website soon.... such as, isn't it interesting that Lorca and the space bug are both sensitive to sudden bright light?  hmmm...  Does Lorca snort those spores or what?

Episode 32 - "Another Shot of Yeager"

Alternate Title: "Biff Yeager thanks The Greatest Gen!"

Alternate Title: "Ducking Jisms"

Alternate Title: "Mr. Softee For Life!"

Alternate Title: "Dorkazord Truth"

How often do you see a podcast dedicate an entire podcast to another podcast?  That's what we've done.  The reason?  Star Trek fans are a close-knit bunch, and when connected by dick-and-fart jokes there's nothing we won't do to show our appreciation.  There's been, drawings, memes, cosplay, drinking games, karaoke, pins, ten forward hangs, and t-shirts, but 'round these parts... we make podcasts.

"The Greatest Generation", a podcast hosted by Adam Pranica and Benjamin Harrison, is the best thing to happen to Star Trek since Data hooked up with Tasha Yar.  Their podcast has equal parts analysis and sarcasm.  If you grew up loving Star Trek and being a little bit embarrassed to admit it, their podcast is easy to find.  And their community of fans are easy to join.

And they are wrapping up their hilarious reviews of the "The Next Generation".  At this point only a handful of episodes left.  And then we travel with them through the space butthole to Deep Space Nine.

I don't need to sell "Greatest Gen" too much here, they are doing fine on their own.  Millions of downloads and dozens of drunk Shimodas can't be wrong.

This episode is not just about the Greatest Gen, it's about their amazing community of fans, which Chuck and I are proud to be part of.  On our podcast (this episode right here in your hands) the "Friends of Desoto" get to say their thanks to Ben & Adam for making ST:TNG something to laugh about again - amongst peers... in social groups! Out in the sunshine, with a saurian brandy in hand!

This episode spotlights the superfans of Greatest Gen, Chuck and I are mostly there to roll tape, and shut out the lights.

Oh yeah, and there's a quiz about The Greatest Gen.  We like quizzes.

Thank you to Mr. Biff Yeager for working with us again!  Biff is great actor with a diverse and respectable resume.  He was recently in Preacher's first season, and is also a beloved character on "Gilmore Girls"!  Check out his IMDB. The role we love him for is Lt. Commander Argyle during the first season of ST:TNG, and this is his second time on our podcast.  He talks more about Argyle here.  He is "the natural" Yeager we all are looking for.  A great guy with a great story (told in our episode: "Interview With Biff Yeager").

The "Friends of Desoto" (Greatest Gen superfans): in this episode: Bill Tilley, Raz & Plaveem, Austin Harper, Dave Ko from Koch Comics, Ludmila J, Sam Tregar, Ellie Rice, Brittany Brown, and of course Biff.  Here is there contact info as I have collected so far (please follow them and tell them you heard them on our show):

1. Brittany Brown: (our Data cosplayer) @hylianviolinist on all major social media platforms.  Even patreon.

2. Ellie Rice - (our troi cosplayer) @reptrillian

3. Sam Tregar (started the #razcals - find him in the Greatest Gen FB group)

4. Ludmilla J. - (the woman with the bat'leth earrings) @luuuuda on Instagram.

5. Dave Ko - @KochComics on Twitter

6. Austin Harper - the admin of "The Greatest Generation" FB group.  You'll have to get passed him to join!  I'm not telling the secret password.

7. Raz and Plaveem - You'll here them paying the big bucks to insult each other on "The Greatest Generation" podcast, or you might bump into them at "Dangerous Curves" (strip joint).

8. Bill Tilley - not just a superfan, a necessary cog in the machine.  Bill creates faux TNG trading cards using the humor of Ben and Adam.  And he cranks them out fast.  He's found his niche, and every card is appreciated by the community.

I couldn't have done this episode without every person above.  Thank you Ben and Adam, and thank you to the everybody in the Greatest Gen Community.   See you next year at Greatest Gen Kahn 2017.

Episode 31 - Interview with comic book writer Matthew D. Smith

"Amazing Age" - Three teenagers spend their days creating comics until one day, the stories come to life! Stuck ina world of super-powered heroes and villains, they'll have to figure out how to save the day AND get back home in one piece!

This episode of Geek Life Crisis is inspiration for anyone who grew up with a love of comic books and a dream to create them. Matthew was a great guest and we loved hearing about his 5-issue limited series "Amazing Age".  He also created and wrote the popular "Bee Sting" graphic novel, which he later produced into a feature film, with a sequel. (Available on Amazon.)

While Matthew sold us on Amazing Age I tried to sell him on the 3-issue limited comic book series I made when I was 10, called "Galactic Defenders" - starring Thunder Thrower, a godlike hero with a hammer. (Can't believe it's 2017 and I'm typing about Thunder Thrower.) This was the part of the interview when Matthew mentioned the new villains he should trademark, "Cease and Desist".

Amazing Age 3rd issue is coming out September 13, 2017.  It's not too late to ask your comic shop person to back-order the past two issues. With artist Jeremy Massie doing the art, and Christine Brunson on colors, this comic strikes a nostalgic chord with older comic fans, and... is great entry level stuff for kids perusing shelves for comprehensive (and affordable) titles.

We hope Matthew has great success and comes back on our show.  We also hope he convinces Jeremy to draw HeroMan and Punk Man into their next endeavor.

You can find Matthew on all the popular social media at:

mdscomics (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)

Find Bee Sting on Amazon too.

Find "Amazing Age" - on twitter and Facebook.  I'm sure you can find Jeremy and Christine Brunson as well, what am I your google? slave?  Go look them up!

Episode 30:

Graphic Novel Writer Wes Locher Talks "Unit 44" - Wes Locher's newly released sci-fi/comedy graphic novel is packed with laughs, with great visuals from illustrator Eduardo Jimenez.

UNIT 44 - This sci-fi/comedy romp tells the story of inept Area 51 employees who forget to pay the rent on the facility's off-site storage unit, leaving the secret contents to be sold at public auction. When an alien invasion threatens Earth, it's up to agents Hatch and Gibson to recover an item from the locker if they hope to stop the extraterrestrial threat.

Alterna Comic's newest graphic novel is hilarious; laughs on every page, if not every panel (awesome sight gags from Ed Jimenez).  We highly recommend it. Writer and Unit 44 creator Wes Locher was a great guy to interview. He tells us how he got involved writing comic books and writing video games. He's got other projects in the works that sound awesome as well. He survived the eclipse, and if you did also, you should buy his graphic novel.  You can get it on Amazon, Target, and if you go to your local comic store, your buddy behind the counter can still order it to get it into your hands.  After you listen to this interview, you should probably just go to your comic shop.  Oh, first give us a good review on iTunes (Apple Podcasts).  Every 5-star review helps our show get noticed by more potential listeners.  HELP US HELP YOU!

Episode 29 - Heck Yeah, It's Spiidermom!

What has two i's and cosplays?  Spiidermom! Spiidermom can be found on Instagram and Facebook.  Please follow her!

This is an interview episode with Jess, AKA Spiidermom. (Yes, she explains the name.) Previously featured in COSPLAY REALM MAGAZINE, she's a fantastic cos-player who is ready to go pro. She's starting to get noticed and acquiring sponsors, so we're glad to have her on our podcast before she becomes famous and leaves us behind. (We try our hand at being Mom-agers ala Kris Jenner.)  Spiidermom's a really funny young woman living in South Carolina, who has great cosplay adventures, as well as a cosplaying family.  Seriously, this family could have their own reality show, with Jess (Spiidermom) as the star.  Her friends got her to cosplay, now her brother cosplays, and her father cosplay as well.  (We'll have you all on the show next time!) Oh yeah, her sister-in-law is a professional mermaid.  Or something like that.

Listen to this episode, and find her pics on IG at SPIIDERMOM.  Also follow her on journey on Facebook.

We give her a special quiz at the end of the episode, and spoiler, she does great.

Thank you Jess for coming on our show. Thanks for being so sweet and fun to talk to.  Keep us posted when you are making the big bucks.

Chuck and I put in our potatoes and discuss this fine Marvel Studios movie.  It's no Wonder Woman, but it's got a lot of good stuff to talk about, including Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr.

It's our 1 year anniversary!

"So Much More Than Lily" is a new and timely biography about actress, comedian, writer, editor, and philanthropist; Milana Vayntrub. Author John V. Hamilton comes on our podcast to talk to us about The AT&T Girl now Squirrel Girl, her refugee origins, and her very bright future.

We learn when inspiration strikes you can do anything. I'm talking about John V. Hamilton; his google search for Milana changed his life, and now he's really paying it forward. We hit him with a goofy trivia quiz at the end.  Does he really know everything about Milana?  Oh, and don't mispronounce Milana's name.  It makes John angry.  You wouldn't like him when he's angry.

If you love Milana, if you ever googled her to learn about her background, Chuck and I highly recommend you go to www.amazon.com and buy the book, "So Much More than Lily"; the hard copy (they still have those!) or save a couple of bucks and buy the kindle version. (Electronic books... from the future!)

Thank you John for coming on our goofy show.  Write another book and come back!

We also have a quick promo from The Everything Podcast. Please find this fine pod wherever fine pods are found.  And then subscribe, rinse and repeat.

We have a new "outro" at the end, so hang in there for that.  Thank you Ashley from Kentucky! (Ashe976 on Instagram).

Episode 24 - RIP Old Chum - Adam West Tribute

Our tribute to television's first Batman, Adam West. Chuck and I hit the highlights of Mr. West's life and career, in our own personal style (yes we send him off in Spock's photon torpedo... that's how we do).   There's trivia and a little quiz at the end.

This was a special episode to us, so we asked for a little help from our friends.  I asked them to send in promos that also talked about Adam West.  And I was really happy to include their submissions.  It made the episode more fun for me, and I hope it does for you as well.  In order of placement in the show, and where you can find them:

Large Marge Sent Us - Podcast on iTunes and wherever the best pods are found.

The Podcouple - Podguy and Podgirl drop in with their Batman beat, go find their pod too!

MissGeek89 - she's got an amazing Instagram account, that is growing in leaps and bounds.  Who knew she had a cool accent?  (I know, I probably have the New York accent to her and many of you.) Go follow her and tell her "Geek Life Crisis sent me"  (sorry sweeties!)

Ashe976 - our #1 fan, Kentucky's finest, Ashley!  Find her on Instagram also!  She's a true geek through and through, and we need more fans like her.

How many potatoes do you think Chuck and I give Logan, from 1-10?

Geek Chat and Geek News: Star Trek, Harry Mudd, and Joss Whedon's Batgirl, First Contact Day, Zephrym Cochran

Geek Celebrity Birthdays and Quizzes: Russell Crowe, Daisy Ridley, and Robin Wright

RIP Chuck Barris (Gong Show)

Our 1-10 potato rating of: LOGAN

Other stuff: Airplane, Metamorphosis, Total Recall, Malaysia, Gene Gene The Dancing Machine, Batman, Gladiator, Moon, Abbot and Costello, Sarlacc, random other stuff too, 1-question Pete, limerick, Jor-el

"Bring Back Harry Mudd" has worked as my sign-off, as Raine Wilson will portray Harry Mudd in the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery.  For some reason we didn't mention the name of the show.

Also we have a commercial for "The Pod Couple" podcast.  They are a groovy couple that crank out like 4 episodes to my one every month.  Sorry for the delay Pod-Guy and Pod-Girl.  Please support them, find their podcast on iTunes, and give a good rating/review!

Thanks for listening!  We've got big plans for future episodes so tell a friend!

Steve

Hello friends... this is the promo we're playing on other podcasts and I thought, why not share it here as well?  I'm paying for this host site, so here, here's another minute of content!  :)

Currently you can hear this promo on recent episodes of "ThePodcouple" podcast, and "Large Marge Sent Us".  Chuck and I recommend both these podcasts; go listen, subscribe, rate, review, rinse, and repeat.

Our next episode is either:

1. Review of Logan.

or

2. Interview with Neal Adams.

Text me if you have preference.

(Probably it'll be whichever gets fully edited first.)

PLEASE TELL A FRIEND ABOUT OUR PODCAST.  Grab their phone and show them how to subscribe if they don't know about podcasts.  #trypod

Hey, isn't the trailer for "Thor Ragnarok" awesome?

Don't you just hate Perry's wife?

#IshtarSequelNow

Please rate and review us on iTunes!  It takes less time than listening to this one minute promo.

Episode 18 - Interview with Alterna Comics publisher Peter Simeti

#BringBackNewsPrintComics -$1.50 each!
In our previous episode, during Geek News, Chuck and Steve discussed the announcement by Alterna Comics publisher Peter Simeti, that Alterna is returning to the days of yore... newsprint comic books!  Alterna has been publishing comics and graphic novels for over 10 years.  They've weathered tough times, but Peter navigated those waters.  With the advent of crowd sourcing web sites, such as Kickstarter, independent comics are experiencing a renaissance, and captivating readers like never before.  Alterna comics has seen their share of positive reviews, New York Times best selling graphic novels, and now one of their classic titles (written by Peter) "The Chair" has recently become a feature length film.  Its starring Rowdy Roddy Piper (RIP) and currently making the rounds on the horror film festival circuit.

Why is Alterna returning to newsprint comics?  Quality stories, lower cost, and location, location, location. Alterna comics will be found at your beloved local comic shop, but also at regular ol' newsstands, in those spots left vacant by "main stream" titles.  Increased visibility should equal increased Alterna circulation.

Reading new newsprint comics again will be very cool.  I might even roll one up and put it in my back pocket for old time's sake. On new comic day, you can definitely afford to get all of the new Alterna titles for less than 10 bucks! for $1.50 an issue (and sometimes less) you can definitely afford a "reader copy" and a "saver" to put away.

For collectors, newsprint comics means that mint and near-mint ratings mean something again.  A newsprint comic will need special care to get slabbed with a 10.0 rating.  Will you be smart enough to secure those first issues quality condition?

Enjoy our podcast interview with Peter Simeti, publisher at Alterna Comics.  Then, go to your local comic store and tell them to add the following Alterna titles to your pull-back list:

Amazing Age, Adam Wreck, Croak, Lilith Dark, Trespasser, The Chair, Scrimshaw, and Mother Russia.

If you miss them at your comic store, you'll likely see them pop up at your newsstand two months later (since comic shops get first dibs).

Thank you Peter Simeti for coming on Geek Life Crisis.  We think of you as the Stan Lee of independent comics!  We hope to follow up with you  someday and hear good things about your newsprint issues. www.alternacomics.com

Your buds,

Steve & Chuck

Hope you enjoyed the promo from "Grouch Inc." podcast.  It's really funny, and I'm a little jealous how easy they make podcasting seem. www.soundcloud.com/grouch-inc

Special thanks again super producer, Chuck, for getting in touch with Peter Simeti, as well my long time friend Karen for our new "out-tro" at the end of the ep.  Can  you guess which celebrity she sounds like??

Hello friends!

This episode we were lucky enough to talk with two of the most popular performers in American Sideshow: Donny Thomas and Adam Realman.

They both cut their teeth (no pun intended with regard Donny) at The Coney Island Sideshow, now known as "Sideshows by the Seashore".  Coney Island has been the epicenter for NY Sideshow performance, with a foothold on the boardwalk for over 100 years.

We discuss PT Barnum, the rise and fall of the American circus.  Adam needs your phone books!  Otherwise he may tear your cell phone in half instead.  Donny schools us on sideshow definition of geek!  And we hear about sideshow acts that went wrong for them as well as audience members.

Adam and Donny are professionals, don't try any of these stunts at home.  Instead, go to Coney Island and sign up for a class.  Adam is actually the dean of the school in which he was once taught.

Donny Vomit is on tour with "Strange for Hire", and Adam remains part of the vital local sideshow scene.  Here's how you can keep up with them on the interwebs:

www.adamrealman.com  (Adam)

www.strangeforhire.com  (Donny)

On Instagram, Facebook, and the Twitter:

@adamrealman

@donnyvomit

@strangeforhire

Also, check www.coneyisland.com for this year's "Sideshows by The Seashore" schedule.

Come out to Coney Island for the Labor Day weekend "Mustache and Beard Contest".  I'll be there for a follow up interview, and try to win the contest.  (Not likely.) Also the Mermaid Parade!

One more thing!  We have a show producer!  Allan David hooked us up with these two guests, and we really appreciate it. We look forward to doing more work with Allan.  He's @hexo66 on Instagram, go follow him.  Thanks Allan!

Our review of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Geek Chat:  Chuck and fam might have enjoyed Christmas in the crapper.  Steve didn't like his Loot Crate toy.  Oh no!

Geek News: Bladerunner's Decker is back and older than ever, Lost in Space: Is Doctor Smith still creepy? Star Trek: Discovery gets new cast member.

Geek Birthdays included: Samuel L. Jackson, Harry Shearer, and Ralph Fiennes!  There is a brief geek quiz for each.

This episode I added an "INSIDE JOKE" drop, because Chuck and I seem to have these from time to time, and I don't always want to cut them.  Feel free to ask if you are interested.

EXPLICIT RATING earned just because we talk about Samuel L. Jackson's favorite curse.

No Geek "In Memorium" this episode, but in our future "extended cut you will hear our good-byes to John Glenn.  RIP John Glenn!  Oh, and Zsa Zsa Gabor.

Finally we review Rogue One.  We talk about the characters and plot and give our potato rating.  Chuck does something he says is unprecedented in the annals of our show.  Turns out it may have been precedented in the annals after all.

Enjoy!  The song at the end is silly, not my best effort, but I was fried staring at the screen trying to wrap this episode up.  Happy New Year my friends!
