Geek Life Crisis: Steins;Gate Edition

GLC - Season 3: Episode 2; title: "Hoboing Coma"

Steins;Gate episode 2: "Time Travel Paranoia"

----------------------------------------------------------

Hello anime fans! Hello Steins;Gate fans! Hello GLC listeners! No longer will we call you prisoners. You have graduated to Assistants! Definitely a step up.

This is somehow season 3 of GLC; and in these 24 episodes we review each episode of a popular anime titled: Steins;Gate. If you've never watched anime, never heard of Steins;Gate, that's fine, neither had GLC cohost, GeekLifeChuck. My goal with this season is to convince Chuck that anime is entertainment worthy of our scrutiny. And make it fun to listen to.

Why Steins;Gate? It's is my favorite anime. It's a fun, time-travel, science fiction adventure. It can be silly, but in the end it's an anime with a lot of heart. The main character reminds me of myself back in the day; king nerd, goofy, kind of annoying; and lucky to be surrounded by great friends.

It will be fun to see/hear Chuck experience the anime learning-curve as I did. Japanese anime culture and terminology; things like: otaku, tsendere, hentai, “Nani???”, maid cafes, fan-service, and... is Dr. Pepper the only soda in Japan??

PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SHOW!

If you like what you hear now, please support us at Patreon.com or Ko-Fi.com. All support will be cheerfully mentioned on the show as the GLC community grows. Patreon support will help us continue the show after these 24 episodes.

Geek Life Crisis: Steins;Gate Edition

GLC - Season 3: Episode 1

GLC podcast episode: "Metal Oopa!"

Steins;Gate episode 1: "Turning Point"

----------------------------------------------------------

Hey there, this is Steve. *wave hi emoji* How have you been? I hope well. Chuck and I are releasing 24 episodes where we review a tv-series. Basically I want us to staying away from geek (or any) "current events" because... 2020. Why not just focus on some fun distraction type stuff? So... let me say hello again:

Hello Friends,

Happy New Year!  Chuck and I are happy to podcast once again. Who would have thought, t'was Aquaman that brought us back together!

In this episode Chuck and I chat, catch up on lost time, and eventually move on to review and potato-rate (1-10) the DC blockbuster "Aquaman".  Luckily I remembered how to do all this podcasting stuff! Let us know if you enjoy the ep.  We'd love to hear from you. Take care brush your hair!

Episode 49 "Avengers: Infinity War - Spoilers"

"Should T'challa Supply Vibranium Armor to his Warriors?"

Chuck and I review the newest Avengers movie, and give our potato rating. There's some funny bits, so even if you think you know everything about Infinity War, you'll still LOL, maybe even ROFL, or SYP, but... then put those pants in a washing machine.

There's an enjoyable piece about Thanos' comic book history, produced by MissGeek89 (please find and follow her on instagram).

Ashle976, as always, deftly handles our outro (find her on instagram as well), which is followed by a brief song I wrote about Thanos.

Thank you prisoners for listening!  Please keep in touch as possible.  Any support goes a long way. You can find us on all the interwebs; twitter, Facebook, instagram, etc.

Episode 48 "RIP Winchester and The Hawk"

Chuck and I talk geek talk, and the topic of a "Hall Pass List" comes up.  You know that list when two married people agree on 5 celebrities it would be okay to lay with in a biblical way, and you cannot catch flack for it.

We talk Hulk and Green Lantern and Tom Cruise, and shake weights come up again.

There's a promo for a great new unique podcast app called "Spoke - The Social Audio App".   Spoke's content curators will match you up with your next favorite app.  Also, keep an eye out for the micro pod  "Biscuits and Gaming" - helping gamers to plan party nights.  What food goes with Settlers of Catan?  What wine goes with Lord Of The Rings RISK?

Then we mourn and roast the passing of David Ogden Stiers (Winchester on MASH, Timisun on Star Trek: The Next Generation) and Stephen Hawking (the smartest man in the world, "wheel chair guy").

Also, there was a winner to our GLC Oscar Pool!  It was "the_nerdy_dude" - listen to his acceptance speech at the end of this episode.  Then go follow him on Instagram.

That's all for this episode!  Please let us know that you like the show.  Track us down on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and beyond.

Episode 47 - "Interview with Ben Kreger, co-creator of The Black Suit of Death", an independent comic book that we love.  Ben and his buddy Ed Ellsworth created The BSoD many years ago, and now their hip deep in severed heads.  Not real ones, but heads drawn with nearly a 3-D accuracy (by phenom Dexter Wee) in the newest issue of this comic; issue #2. This issue is being released first to those that backed it in Kickstarter (That would be me. You can again find my name in the comic on  BSoD's "Worthy List", so I'm keeping my head thank you).

Ben, Ed, and Dexter shared issue 2 with Chuck and I before anyone else so we could do this interview.  BUT the main reason we'r doing the interview?  The Kickstarter has begun for ISSUE 3 of BSoD.  Go to Kickstarter now and pledge to this creative project.

There have been 3 issues so far:

The first one is like an issue #0, called "The Ides of March"

Then there is Issue #1.  We interviewed Ben about that issue back in October 2016.  Go check it out, I re-listened, and actually thought we were funny.

Issue 2 - is BSoD in action, the suit is switched to 11 and the scythe is cutting like a deli slicer.

Issue 3 is in campaign mode, go to Kickstarter to find out more.

Or go to fund.blacksuitofdeath.com and follow the easy steps to become cool like me.

Gotta run!  Sorry for the quickly written notes here.  I'm going out to get ramen with Celeste right now.  I have a life, people!

Episode 46 - "Black Panther - Spoiled Yamojis"

We breakdown this great movie with more detail and give our official potato rating.  We hear from Ashley from Kentucky, and also Chuck's son, Griffin gives Black Panther a rating.  He gives yams, because they're from Africa, you see.

We have some laughs, and I hope you enjoy.

Please give us a rating at Apple I-Tunes. We are not accepting thoughts or prayers this month.  Sorry.  :(

Blazing Saddles reference in there, and ummm... I forget. Dammit I meant to put an Ishtar reference in there, but I forgot.  Oh well, you're spared from that.  I'm fried.  I always type this stuff up when I'm half asleep.  Black Panther was great.  So was "Get Out"  I just bought it on Amazon.

Stay after the credits for a couple of silly things.

Thank you prisoners!   Stay warm, or cool, or wet, like in a heated pool, or a hot tub.  Take care, brush your hair.

Mini Promo Episode - #45 - OSCAR POOL T-SHIRT CONTEST!

Hello friends and listeners!

If you love movies like we do then you love the Oscars. The BAFTA award show is nice, the Golden Globes fun, and the Razzies award show quite refined; but the Academy Awards is movie award nirvana. You know it, we know it, Abe Vigoda knew it.

Chuck and I know our Oscar winners and losers, and love Oscar us some trivia. Right David Niven streaker?  We thought it would be fun to invite you to join us in an Oscar pool, let the competition play out on twitter, and we'll give a GLC T-Shirt to the person who guesses the most Oscar winners of the night.  Also, we'll announce your twitter handle on our show, or your IG account, and promote whatever you got going on.

Again, you can win any one of the Geek Life Crisis T-shirts available right now at Teespring.com (your choice), you'll get some free promotion on our show, we'll talk you up like your King T'Challa. You'll be eternally spotlighted as our first contest winner on our website. Chuck may even extend a laurel... and hardy handshake to the winner.  (Movie joke, google it if you want.)

It's going to be fun, and it's going to be soon, so go to www.geeklifecrisis.com to print out a ballot today.  The Academy Awards is March 4th!  Oh no, so soon!  Hurry!  What if there's no paper in your printer??

By the time the Oscars starts we'll provide a printable spreadsheet of everyone's picks so you can root for your favorite movies, and root against the rest of the GLC prisoners who are trying to take your sweet sweet GLC t-shirt away from you.

Instructions and details at www.geeklifecrisis.com.

If this goes well, we'll have more contests!

PS:  Sorry the pod-commercial sounds cheesy. We scripted it and wanted to get it out quickly. It's making me cringe, but it does the job.

Hey everyone!

Just a quick episode where Chuck and I talk "Black Panther" with no spoilers.

Also included is an interview with Bob from Royal Collectibles (my local comic shop here in Queens).  They have a large Facebook group, and used the power of SOCIAL MEDIA to invite everyone out with them to see Black Panther on opening night. So, I wanted to talk with Bob about the movie and their night out.  Also, thank you to Diane at Royal Collectibles for the special introduction.  If you're in Queens, or nearby, it's worth a trip to Royal Collectibles. They have everything a comic geek could want.

Thank you to new Patron the_nerdy_dude (on instagram). Also to yetiatlarge (on twitter), and Scott Parkin who is selling some sweet USS Callister t-shirts on instagram.  (His daughter did the amazing art.)

Enjoy!  Take care, brush your hair!

Episode 43 "Thank You Patrons"  aka "Heather Thomas and The Chuckster Birthday"

Happy Birthday Chuck! Chuck shares a story about a famous Heather Thomas (google her) poster that coincidentally set Chuck and I on to the path toward manhood.  (70's porn music)

Thank you Patrons!  On Twitter and Instagram: @hylianviolinist, @theeverythingpodcast, and @ashe976.  Thank you so much for your support and PATREON pledges!  Please follow these fine people on social media to support their creativeness!

Chuck and I do a "birthday buddy" trivia quiz.  Chuck shares his birth date (Jan 26) with Eddie Van Halen (born January 26, 1955); and I share mine (May 26) with Matt Stone (Born May 26, 1971).

Honorable mention for notable new listeners: @Yetiatlarge, @the_nerdy_dude, @scottparkin. They will get some props in our next ep if I have anything to do with it.  (And I do.)

Enjoy, prisoners!  (I almost left the comma out, and then it would have been a command: "Enjoy prisoners!" ha!)

Episode 42 "The USS Callister and Avocados"

Hello GLC listeners and prisoners!

If you enjoy Star Trek and/or role playing video games, and you have not yet watched Season 4: Episode 1 of Netflix "Black Mirror", then... get thee to a Holodeck!  Or your living room, and watch it.  It's not just Star Trek parody, it's a smart take on modern gaming, creeps with too much power, overcoming adversity, and good versus evil? Although, who do you root for?  The captain of the USS Callister, Robert Cody, or the newest crew member, Nanette Cole?

Chuck and I discuss this cool episode specifically, and wonder if it could make a decent series. What does "USS Callister" have that "The Orville" doesn't?

Thank you to Ashley from Kentucky (Ashe976 on Instagram/Twitter) for her revised outro (and intro?).  Also, thanks to MissGeek89 (Instagram) for her Callister review from jolly ol' England.  Please follow them both on Instagram if you aren't already.

I hope you enjoy the episode!

Episode 41 "The Last Jedi - Spoilers Up The Ying-Yang"

Chuck and I give the latest Star Wars installment our potato rating.  We review some theories and have some laughs.

I am really happy with this edited version.  Not sure how other people do their podcasts, but this episode was an hour and twenty minutes long when I started editing it.  Now it's as tight as a Porg's butt on an ice planet.

Not too much to say here, if you saw the movie, then this pod brings up some interesting points.  If you haven't seen the movie yet, how did you get here?

Episode 39 - "SNOOTLE - Interview Author Tia Petty"

Turn on this podcast and go to www.snootle.com to check out Snootle, a comic strip by Tia Petty.  Snootle is a dog going through a "puppy life crisis"! Snootle and Repty the garden snake have adventures while looking out for their human boy Patrick.  Tia just had her first Snootle book published, and you can find it on www.amazon.com or www.barnesandnoble.com.  The book is huge and colorful and makes a great gift.  It's the kind of book that you should leave out on the coffee table so friends can page through it and say "gee this friend of mine has a great sense of humor, and is sooooo good looking."

Tia tells us about how she managed to produce this special tome using only an iPad!  She gives away all the secrets so you can create your own comic strip and make it into a book and compete with her on the store book shelf.  I share my childhood comic strip character I created with her and Chuck, his name is Gimic.

Also, there's a quiz at the end and Tia does well.  Many more winning sounds than buzzer sounds.

We hope you enjoy this episode!  Thanks for listening.  And really, check out Tia's book, Snootle, you may even want to buy the t-shirt and coffee cup with Snootle's face on it as well.

Ridley Scott had a vision of bleak future, but there are flying cars and robots called replicants, so it can't be all bad, right?  Well the newest installment is about replicants replicating the old fashioned way.  And the mysteries of who's human and who's more human than human carry on.

Episode 36 - "Ishtar: 30 Years Hot Fudge Love"

THE EPISODE YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!   WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!  The episode that may make you change your name to Carol. (Ishtar reference)

We've been teasing you on IG and Twitter with #bringbackishtar for months now. (Go ahead, google that hashtag.)  Not only are Chuck and I talking about this too hip for the room comedy; we got to interview a big shot filmmaker!  "Waiting For Ishtar" is a new documentary (available December 15, 2017 on VIMEO On Demand). It was created by filmmakers John Mitchell and Jonathan Crombie. Chuck and I were lucky to interview John Mitchell about our mutual love of the misunderstood film "Ishtar".  John's documentary is about a quest; a quest to find a sole video cassette copy of Ishtar, and to uncover why there was a waiting list of 47 people to see it.  While making the movie, John and Jonathan got a lot more than they dreamed.  They were the "Rogers and Clark" (Ishtar reference) of documentaries.  They were the dreamers that didn't give up until they achieved their goal.  Their simple documentary became an adventure.  Oh, and they got to interview, Charles Grodin, Carol Kane, and Paul Williams.

Enough about John and Jonathon... Chuck and I got to talk ISHTAR!  With a kindred soul, another wise human being that "gets" the humor, loves the songs, and has always wondered why Ishtar got so maligned?

Ishtar is 30 years old, and it's overdue for a sequel. Step aside Star Wars! We hope you enjoy this interview with John Mitchell.  It was a pleasure having him on the show.

Instructions: 1) Listen to this podcast.  2) Order "Waiting for Ishtar" using Vimeo On Demand. 3) Buy the blu-ray of Ishtar.  4) Learn all the songs.

AND PLEASE -- review our show on iTunes!  It means so much to us.

Thanks John for coming on our show!  It was great laughing about Ishtar again.

Episode 35 - "Thor: Meh-ranok?"

Someone on the show has a special rating system.  Likes/Dislikes/and Meh.  Is Thor: Ragnarok "meh" or not "meh"?  That is the question.

Highlight of the show - probably not us, it's probably Ashley from Kentucky with her very funny and yet swift and succinct review of "Thor: Ragnarok".    Thanks for being part of our show, Ashley!

Episode 34 - "Dissecting Star Trek Discovery"

Is Sarek secretly a member of the Article 31 operatives?

Chuck and poke the first few episodes of Discovery with a pain-stick, and we prognosticate on where this show is going. When this series concludes if it turns out we were right, we'll be sure to remind you.

A weird mind-meld may mean Sarek had reason for placing his ward on the Shenzou.  Did he have foreknowledge that ship would bump into the Klingons?  Did Michael?  Get your remote control out and be ready to hit "pause".  There's hints in every eyeball close-up, and marbles in T'Kuvma's mouth.  You can get it al with CBS All Access... ooooh yeah!!

Let us know if you agree with any of our theories.  Send me a tweet! Thanks for listening to Geek Life Crisis!  Please reach out to us on the Facebook, the twitter, the tumblr, or the Instagram.  Write a review on iTunes! Visit our now "fully functional" website. (See what I did there?)  I will blog some "after editing" Discovery thoughts on our website soon.... such as, isn't it interesting that Lorca and the space bug are both sensitive to sudden bright light?  hmmm...  Does Lorca snort those spores or what?

Episode 33 - "RIP Martin Landau"

We celebrate celebrity birthdays with quizzes!  Woody Harrelson, Kate Beckinsale, and Kevin Spacey.

We talk about other podcasts: The Everything Podcast, The Podcouple, Large Marge Sent Us, Greatest Gen, and more!

Ummmm... I'm in a rush to get to my day job.  What to write, what to write?   I probably talked about Space 1999 too much, but it's a fave of mine.

You may notice this episode was recorded in July.  Other projects jumped ahead of this one, apologies to Martin Landau.

Oh, my girlfriend, Celeste, appears briefly in this episode!  (NAKED!)

Thanks to Ashley for the outro!

Episode 32 - "Another Shot of Yeager"

Alternate Title: "Biff Yeager thanks The Greatest Gen!"

Alternate Title: "Ducking Jisms"

Alternate Title: "Mr. Softee For Life!"

Alternate Title: "Dorkazord Truth"

How often do you see a podcast dedicate an entire podcast to another podcast?  That's what we've done.  The reason?  Star Trek fans are a close-knit bunch, and when connected by dick-and-fart jokes there's nothing we won't do to show our appreciation.  There's been, drawings, memes, cosplay, drinking games, karaoke, pins, ten forward hangs, and t-shirts, but 'round these parts... we make podcasts.

"The Greatest Generation", a podcast hosted by Adam Pranica and Benjamin Harrison, is the best thing to happen to Star Trek since Data hooked up with Tasha Yar.  Their podcast has equal parts analysis and sarcasm.  If you grew up loving Star Trek and being a little bit embarrassed to admit it, their podcast is easy to find.  And their community of fans are easy to join.

And they are wrapping up their hilarious reviews of the "The Next Generation".  At this point only a handful of episodes left.  And then we travel with them through the space butthole to Deep Space Nine.

I don't need to sell "Greatest Gen" too much here, they are doing fine on their own.  Millions of downloads and dozens of drunk Shimodas can't be wrong.

This episode is not just about the Greatest Gen, it's about their amazing community of fans, which Chuck and I are proud to be part of.  On our podcast (this episode right here in your hands) the "Friends of Desoto" get to say their thanks to Ben & Adam for making ST:TNG something to laugh about again - amongst peers... in social groups! Out in the sunshine, with a saurian brandy in hand!

This episode spotlights the superfans of Greatest Gen, Chuck and I are mostly there to roll tape, and shut out the lights.

Oh yeah, and there's a quiz about The Greatest Gen.  We like quizzes.

Thank you to Mr. Biff Yeager for working with us again!  Biff is great actor with a diverse and respectable resume.  He was recently in Preacher's first season, and is also a beloved character on "Gilmore Girls"!  Check out his IMDB. The role we love him for is Lt. Commander Argyle during the first season of ST:TNG, and this is his second time on our podcast.  He talks more about Argyle here.  He is "the natural" Yeager we all are looking for.  A great guy with a great story (told in our episode: "Interview With Biff Yeager").

The "Friends of Desoto" (Greatest Gen superfans): in this episode: Bill Tilley, Raz & Plaveem, Austin Harper, Dave Ko from Koch Comics, Ludmila J, Sam Tregar, Ellie Rice, Brittany Brown, and of course Biff.  Here is there contact info as I have collected so far (please follow them and tell them you heard them on our show):

1. Brittany Brown: (our Data cosplayer) @hylianviolinist on all major social media platforms.  Even patreon.

2. Ellie Rice - (our troi cosplayer) @reptrillian

3. Sam Tregar (started the #razcals - find him in the Greatest Gen FB group)

4. Ludmilla J. - (the woman with the bat'leth earrings) @luuuuda on Instagram.

5. Dave Ko - @KochComics on Twitter

6. Austin Harper - the admin of "The Greatest Generation" FB group.  You'll have to get passed him to join!  I'm not telling the secret password.

7. Raz and Plaveem - You'll here them paying the big bucks to insult each other on "The Greatest Generation" podcast, or you might bump into them at "Dangerous Curves" (strip joint).

8. Bill Tilley - not just a superfan, a necessary cog in the machine.  Bill creates faux TNG trading cards using the humor of Ben and Adam.  And he cranks them out fast.  He's found his niche, and every card is appreciated by the community.

I couldn't have done this episode without every person above.  Thank you Ben and Adam, and thank you to the everybody in the Greatest Gen Community.   See you next year at Greatest Gen Kahn 2017.

Episode 31 - Interview with comic book writer Matthew D. Smith

"Amazing Age" - Three teenagers spend their days creating comics until one day, the stories come to life! Stuck ina world of super-powered heroes and villains, they'll have to figure out how to save the day AND get back home in one piece!

This episode of Geek Life Crisis is inspiration for anyone who grew up with a love of comic books and a dream to create them. Matthew was a great guest and we loved hearing about his 5-issue limited series "Amazing Age".  He also created and wrote the popular "Bee Sting" graphic novel, which he later produced into a feature film, with a sequel. (Available on Amazon.)

While Matthew sold us on Amazing Age I tried to sell him on the 3-issue limited comic book series I made when I was 10, called "Galactic Defenders" - starring Thunder Thrower, a godlike hero with a hammer. (Can't believe it's 2017 and I'm typing about Thunder Thrower.) This was the part of the interview when Matthew mentioned the new villains he should trademark, "Cease and Desist".

Amazing Age 3rd issue is coming out September 13, 2017.  It's not too late to ask your comic shop person to back-order the past two issues. With artist Jeremy Massie doing the art, and Christine Brunson on colors, this comic strikes a nostalgic chord with older comic fans, and... is great entry level stuff for kids perusing shelves for comprehensive (and affordable) titles.

We hope Matthew has great success and comes back on our show.  We also hope he convinces Jeremy to draw HeroMan and Punk Man into their next endeavor.

You can find Matthew on all the popular social media at:

mdscomics (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)

Find Bee Sting on Amazon too.

Find "Amazing Age" - on twitter and Facebook.  I'm sure you can find Jeremy and Christine Brunson as well, what am I your google? slave?  Go look them up!

Find Alterna Comics on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram: @alternacomics

Thank you Peter Simeti, founder and publisher at Alterna.  Follow his wisdom on Instagram: @petersimetiart ; and on twitter: @petersimeti.  (He was born on new comic book day.)

Episode 29 - Heck Yeah, It's Spiidermom!

What has two i's and cosplays?  Spiidermom! Spiidermom can be found on Instagram and Facebook.  Please follow her!

This is an interview episode with Jess, AKA Spiidermom. (Yes, she explains the name.) Previously featured in COSPLAY REALM MAGAZINE, she's a fantastic cos-player who is ready to go pro. She's starting to get noticed and acquiring sponsors, so we're glad to have her on our podcast before she becomes famous and leaves us behind. (We try our hand at being Mom-agers ala Kris Jenner.)  Spiidermom's a really funny young woman living in South Carolina, who has great cosplay adventures, as well as a cosplaying family.  Seriously, this family could have their own reality show, with Jess (Spiidermom) as the star.  Her friends got her to cosplay, now her brother cosplays, and her father cosplay as well.  (We'll have you all on the show next time!) Oh yeah, her sister-in-law is a professional mermaid.  Or something like that.

Listen to this episode, and find her pics on IG at SPIIDERMOM.  Also follow her on journey on Facebook.

We give her a special quiz at the end of the episode, and spoiler, she does great.

Thank you Jess for coming on our show. Thanks for being so sweet and fun to talk to.  Keep us posted when you are making the big bucks.

Go buy Cosplay Realm Magazine and demand more Spiidermom!

Also, on IG follow @yourawesomenesscat

Thanks everyone for listening!

Peace!

Episode 28 "Spider-Man Homecoming Review

Chuck and I put in our potatoes and discuss this fine Marvel Studios movie.  It's no Wonder Woman, but it's got a lot of good stuff to talk about, including Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr.

In this episode we were lucky enough to have a Spidey trivia segment by MissGeek89 (go follow her on Instagram now)!  She did a little research on Spidey and still has that cool accent.

Oh, and we talk briefly about the thirteenth Doctor Who being a woman.  Is this a good or bad thing?  :::eye roll:::

You'll again catch our "OUTRO" announcer AshE976 with a completely different type of accent.  Find her on Instagram as well.

Thanks MissGeek89 and AshE976!
