Episode 18 - Interview with Alterna Comics publisher Peter Simeti

#BringBackNewsPrintComics -$1.50 each!
In our previous episode, during Geek News, Chuck and Steve discussed the announcement by Alterna Comics publisher Peter Simeti, that Alterna is returning to the days of yore... newsprint comic books!  Alterna has been publishing comics and graphic novels for over 10 years.  They've weathered tough times, but Peter navigated those waters.  With the advent of crowd sourcing web sites, such as Kickstarter, independent comics are experiencing a renaissance, and captivating readers like never before.  Alterna comics has seen their share of positive reviews, New York Times best selling graphic novels, and now one of their classic titles (written by Peter) "The Chair" has recently become a feature length film.  Its starring Rowdy Roddy Piper (RIP) and currently making the rounds on the horror film festival circuit.

Why is Alterna returning to newsprint comics?  Quality stories, lower cost, and location, location, location. Alterna comics will be found at your beloved local comic shop, but also at regular ol' newsstands, in those spots left vacant by "main stream" titles.  Increased visibility should equal increased Alterna circulation.

Reading new newsprint comics again will be very cool.  I might even roll one up and put it in my back pocket for old time's sake. On new comic day, you can definitely afford to get all of the new Alterna titles for less than 10 bucks! for $1.50 an issue (and sometimes less) you can definitely afford a "reader copy" and a "saver" to put away.

For collectors, newsprint comics means that mint and near-mint ratings mean something again.  A newsprint comic will need special care to get slabbed with a 10.0 rating.  Will you be smart enough to secure those first issues quality condition?

Enjoy our podcast interview with Peter Simeti, publisher at Alterna Comics.  Then, go to your local comic store and tell them to add the following Alterna titles to your pull-back list:

Amazing Age, Adam Wreck, Croak, Lilith Dark, Trespasser, The Chair, Scrimshaw, and Mother Russia.

If you miss them at your comic store, you'll likely see them pop up at your newsstand two months later (since comic shops get first dibs).

Thank you Peter Simeti for coming on Geek Life Crisis.  We think of you as the Stan Lee of independent comics!  We hope to follow up with you  someday and hear good things about your newsprint issues. www.alternacomics.com

Your buds,

Steve & Chuck

Hope you enjoyed the promo from "Grouch Inc." podcast.  It's really funny, and I'm a little jealous how easy they make podcasting seem. www.soundcloud.com/grouch-inc

Special thanks again super producer, Chuck, for getting in touch with Peter Simeti, as well my long time friend Karen for our new "out-tro" at the end of the ep.  Can  you guess which celebrity she sounds like??
